Orthognathic Surgery
Corrective jaw surgery may be needed when the jaws don't meet correctly and/or teeth don't seem to fit with the jaws. This may be the result of genetics and jaw growth, or the result of previous facial trauma. Orthodontic treatment may not be enough to establish the proper jaw relationship or bite. Working in combination with your orthodontist, corrective jaw surgery is needed to reposition misaligned jaws into the correct position. Surgery provides a better facial appearance and ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly, while reducing damage that your existing bite may be causing your teeth. Improvement in speech, chewing, swallowing and overall oral health is seen. Corrective jaw surgery can be used to improve joint position and can reduce TMJ related pain and is used to treat sleep apnea and breathing problems.
